Luskin’s Jayson Awards

Ken Waight @ 7:32 am

I think that Donald Luskin has been enjoying the Daniel Okrent/Paul Krugman confrontation way too much. He’s taken the occasion to offer prizes for the Jayson [Blair] Awards for Most Outrageous Krugmanisms. I’ve nominated a couple of my favorites:

  1. In 2002, Paul Krugman predicted that a drag on the economy would result from a tax form gotcha: “Finally, there’s line 47. You haven’t heard about that, but you will.”
  2. Also in 2002, he predicted that Trent Lott would continue as Senate Majority Leader after a slap on the wrist over his remarks on Strom Thurmond’s 1948 presidential campaign.

I’m not sure if they belong in the “Worst Prediction” category, or one of the “Biggest Howler” categories.
